I'm a life long resident of Averill Park, NY where I live with my Husband, Dave. We have 3 grown children and 3 grandchildren. Passion for Fashion was my empty nest plan. After volunteering for 6 years as a cheer and dance coach I couldn't deny how much I enjoyed working with children. I wanted to provide a place where ALL children were welcome and the focus was on fun! I opened my studio in 2003. Initially I offered Costume, Photography and Dance. With Dance being the main focus. It didn't seem fair to have the kids dance in a room full of dress up clothes and not give them an opportunity to play with them. So... once a month my dance classes would play dress up and I would practice my photography. I'm not sure who liked "dress up day" more, me or the kids. I got creative with set design, costuming, posing and telling a story with 1 image. Over the years my photography skills grew though it was clear to me there was something missing. My images were average. I was looking for awesome. So finally in 2011 I joined Professional Photographers Society of NYS. (PPSNYS.COM) I now had the opportunity to learn from the artists who were creating the "awesome" imagery that I admired. I attended every workshop or training seminar that was affordable and within a reasonable driving distance. I was on a mission to learn how "they" did that. I took classes in Photoshop and spent literally hours practicing to create my signature look. It is a work in progress. In 2013, after 10 years in business I had to make some changes. So with a heavy heart I gave up my dance program and my studio became full time photography. With access to a wealth of educational opportunities, (thanks to PPSNYS) I started the journey to create timeless art pieces with children as the subjects.
I am inspired by the works of Norman Rockwell, Anne Geddes, and Lawrence Allen Williams.
I attend the Photo Imaging Workshop sponsored by PPSNYS each year at Hobart William Smith Colleges. This is my favorite workshop and this year I'll be studying with Marty Grivjack learning the power of Lightroom.
I have studied with Don Chick in 2012, Judy Host in 2013 and Jane Connor-ziser in 2014, and Ed and Linda Pedi in 2015. All have contributed to the evolution of my work.
I entered my first professional photo competition in April of 2014. All 4 images scored above average earning a red ribbon.
I entered my second professional competition in February of 2015. 3 of my images scored above average earning a red ribbon and 1 scored 85 placing it in the excellent category earning my first blue ribbon.
I entered my 3rd competition in April of 2016. Earning my 2nd blue ribbon and 3 more reds!
In February 2015 I joined Professional Photographers of America because it was time to broaden my horizons once again. This organization offers many more educational opportunities and the chance to start entering national competitions.
